p.s I know the vlog needs work, but a bad vlog is better than no vlog right? I guess I’ve also learnt a lot about vlogging, camera shots and editing through this process and hopefully my next one will be a lot better 🙂

Reflection

The Process:

The biggest factor in my process was the material I chose for this project. Whilst the brief was about crafting with waste, a designer should always consider the material they are working with and this is something I failed to do. As seen in my documentation, this led to a lot of limitations, setbacks, and wasted time due to the material I chose. However, I do stand by my choice in material and my outcome as I went with the initial inspiration that came to me when first seeing this material and I had a successful outcome. Additionally, it allowed me to learn a lot about materials, the various machines at the FabLab (i’ve been inducted on nearly everything now), and the design process. I think I very well could be considered an expert on Laminex now!

Furthermore, I think I could have benefitted from more time planning my ideas thoroughly and preparing drafts. This is a vital part of the design process, and whilst I was flooded with ideas, not planning ahead led to many mistakes that could have been prevented. 

My Outcome:

I am incredibly proud of my overall finished outcome. I believe that it has been crafted with care, is aesthetically pleasing to look at, and plays a nice sound (a factor that is vital to an instrument) Whilst it definitely could have been improved, considering the time limitations and materials used, the outcome is quite impressive.
